The newly-refurbished Ken Cooke field, located at the Police Academy, Long Circular Road, St James, was today officially handed over to Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith. The international grade field was done by Superior Landscaping General Construction Co. Ltd. and blessed by Father Ashton Pierre.
In attendance was National Senior Men’s Coach, Terry Fenwick who shared his elation about the fresh field, “This looks like Wembley!”. Coach Fenwick also communicated the importance of regular maintenance of the space and bid the CoP good luck against his penalty shots.
Commissioner Griffith, in his address, shared that the grounds were not just for the officers, but to serve the community through sport. He encouraged a shift in perspective on the role of sports from ‘extra-curricular’ to ‘co-curricular’.
The Commissioner expressed his thanks to all the stakeholders involved with the project and welcomed the opportunity to prove himself as goalkeeper against all invited guests, inclusive of former Trinidad and Tobago World Cup players, Brent Sancho and Stern John.
