One man was arrested for possession of firearm and ammunition during a roadblock exercise conducted in the Morvant district on Saturday 2nd May, 2020.
Whilst performing the exercise duty along Laventille Road in the vicinity of the Morvant RC Church, information was received that a blue Toyota Corolla NZE motor vehicle was conveying firearms and ammunition. The said vehicle was observed proceeding north along Laventille Road in the vicinity of the RC Church. Officers stopped the vehicle and observed a black bag on the front seat passenger side. The driver then evaded the party of officers and drove off hastily.

A chase ensued and the vehicle was subsequently intercepted at the corner of Plover Street and Laventille Road, Morvant. Officers then searched the vehicle and found a black bag on the floor of the front passenger side containing a firearm fitted with a magazine containing six rounds of 9mm ammunition bearing markings TANFOGLIO Force 99. The suspect was arrested and conveyed to the San Juan Police Station.

The exercise was spearheaded by Supt Roger Alexander, coordinated by Ag/Sgt Martin and Ag/Cpl Majeed and included other members of the North Eastern Division Task Force.
