In the moments when you are faced with stressful situations, what you eat will determine your energy level. Your body needs more nutrients to sustain energy levels while under stress.
Stress also affects how your body absorbs these nutrients. One important vitamin the body needs during stressful times is Vitamin C. The lack of Vitamin C during stress causes your energy level to drop and you become tired and listless very easily. Also your immune system weakens considerably.
Stress can also thicken your blood. This is why some people when under stress, their blood pressure goes up. They need to be extremely careful, especially if they are aged as this can cause a stroke or heart attack.
Coffee, tea with caffeine and too much sugar can also add to stress. You may get some temporary relief when you take these but it is not an overall good practice. They will affect you negatively in the long run, as too much sugar and caffeine will affect your blood sugar levels. So instead of drinking coffee, soda or eating sweets during stress, take vitamins and minerals.
The best source of vitamins and minerals are of course, fruits and vegetables. Some of the fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C are oranges, apples, melons. Vegetable sources are tomatoes, red and green peppers, spinach, just to name a few. Carrots and other green and leafy vegetables are other excellent sources for your daily intake of nutrients.
Some good blood thinners are onion, garlic, peppermint and cinnamon. When you want to increase your energy levels please try and avoid coffee and sweets. They will help yes, but are not really good for you as they do not contain vital nutrients for your body.
Carbohydrates are a good source of energy. You can use whole grain, low fat dairy products and legumes.
Overall healthy eating will keep your energy level at its best and help you to deal with the affects of stress.
