Don't take us for fools, Prime Minister

Well written – some things require no additional comment, except that this is well worth reading!

Having looked at the Prime Minister’s media conference following the Opposition Leader’s disclosure of the flight manifest from the Venezuelan vice-president’s Covid (or covert) visit to Trinidad, I have a few concerns:
1. I don’t see Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar as a “traitor”. In fact, by her actions, she shows great patriotism and plays the role that is intended for the Opposition under our Westminster system, i.e., to disclose potential shortcomings/cover-ups by the Government.
2. The manner and tone with which the PM said, “You are a traitor, lady”, reminds me of those many instances in court when a witness is cornered and caught telling untruths and vacuously lashes out to his accuser, “You are lying on me!”.
3. How can we really believe:
a) That the PM met the Venezuelan vice- president to discuss Covid-19 issues, yet neither the Minister of Health nor (Chief Medical Officer) Dr Roshan Parasram were invited to the meeting?
b) The Trinidad border was opened to allow this aircraft to enter Trinidad (and I know from my recent handling of the 33 citizens returning from Barbados that advanced aircraft details are mandatory by Civil Aviation), but neither the Minister of National Security nor Minister of Foreign affairs knew the aircraft was a US-sanctioned aircraft?
c) The borders were opened to allow the Venezuelan vice-president and other men to enter the country and the meeting takes place at the Government’s Diplomatic Centre, but no one introduced the other men to our Government ministers or the Prime Minister?
d) Why did these “unidentified” men, who just happen to be major players in the Venezuelan oil/gas industry, accompany the Venezuelan vice-president to Trinidad? Did they just come for a plane ride to Trinidad?
e) The borders having been opened to facilitate this meeting (meaning the meeting was so important that it could not be done by Zoom or Skype, etc), the Prime Minister didn’t have or know the agenda of the meeting?
The PM has been found wanting and we still wait for his full disclosure on this matter.
Come on, PM, please don’t take your citizens for fools!
